Session 1: 8:30-10:00
BCBA1: When the Buy-In Increases the Pay-Out: Stephanie Kronenfeld
Staff buy-in is integral to treatment plan implementation, follow-through, and success. In this course, we will explore ways to improve upon staff buy-in and overall attitude toward treatment plans, as well as ways to track and improve upon procedural integrity. Research shows that high rates of procedural integrity improve treatment outcome, making this an important part of the behavior change process.
BCBA2: School Refusal FBAs: Catherine Hindle
School refusal FBAs present unique challenges to behavior analysts. Participants will become familiar with commonly used indirect assessment tools, recommendations based on function and interviewing tools.
BCBA3: BCBA Guidelines vs. IDEA: Ryan Snyder
Functional Behavior Assessment in Publicly Funded Education: reconciling special education laws and ABA practice Since 1997 the term Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) has been included in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Court proceedings, guidance from the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), and subsequent re-authorizations of IDEA has continued to develop how the education system in Massachusetts interprets the federal guidelines for students when behavior that is a determinant of their disability interferes with learning. This presentation will focus on the reconciling the IDEA requirements of a FBA with its current practice and ethical concerns in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis.
