LMT1 Community Outreach
Come learn about the partnership between the Lynnfield High School Help Desk and the Lynnfield Senior Center. Bridging generations, see how high school students taught classes for senior citizens and learn about the long-lasting effects of their collaboration.
LMT2 Creativity with Canva
Canva is a graphic design website which allows students and teachers to create any type of digital media, including posters, infographics, blogs, social media posts, etc. It has an easy drag and drop interface, and provides access to over a million photographs, graphics and fonts. Attendees will learn how to use the interface hands-on and receive curriculum and lesson ideas on how to use this tool in their curriculum. They will also benefit from practical uses of this software for their classroom via posters, maps and displays. Student work examples will be provided for elementary, middle and high school. Attendees will leave with ideas and projects that they can utilize in their classroom and curriculum.
LMT3 Virtual Reality in the Classroom
Virtual Reality in the classroom stimulates curiosity with it’s immersive nature. Focusing on Google Expeditions, we will take a look at the world of possibilities for VR in the classroom. As time allows, we will also explore other VR experiences. Discussion and exploration are encouraged!

LMT5 The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (8:30-10:00)
We tried a lot of resources this year for the first time. Let me tell you about what worked really well, and where I had trouble. Cubelets – These innovative robots were a great success; learn tips and tricks to make them even better. I will bring some for hands-on activities. Quizlet Live – I worked this into fifth grade classrooms. How I rolled it out to the kids in my class and then pushed it out to their classrooms. Kindle App for the Mac – Checkout a free app, some copyright-free stories online, and free Amazon software Whispercast – pros and cons. Google CS First – based on Scratch – I used their computer club curriculum with great success—let me tell you! I learned some lessons of what to do better next year! Low Tech – My students asked if they could make “real” projects. Let’s talk about what we did to help other students and teachers in the building while also fulfilling standards. Breakout EDU I got a kit, we played with it. Sometimes it went well, and sometimes not. Let’s try it together. Finally: Donors Choose. I tried it and loved it. Let me show you a few tips on winning grants. Hands-on work, using this website– so consider a grant idea before you come.

Description: PBS LearningMedia offers thousands of classroom-ready, standards-aligned digital resources for all grades and across the curriculum. PBS LearningMedia has a new look and feel. In this interactive session, we’ll showcase the “refreshed” PBS LearningMedia site and give attendees tricks and tips to searching, saving and sharing resources to support instruction and a sneak peak at resources in the pipeline. One lucky attendee will take home a PBS LearningMedia gift bag.

LMT9 Programming Through the Digital Standards
In this session you will learn tools and resources to expand your ability to teach and learn programming skills. Focusing on tools and programming languages often used in grades 5-12, this workshop will walk through an overview of how to introduce programming languages such Python, C++ and utilize single board computing systems such as Raspberry Pi and Arduino technologies to teach students introductory hardware and programming concepts. Additionally, this session will delve into how traditional web design instruction can be shifted to also address the support for mobile and web application interfaces as well as support Javascript and PHP languages. Come learn tools to teach programming and get an overview of how new technologies can make teaching programming languages and hardware fun and more engaging.

Description:Google Classroom can be used for PD. Google Classroom is perfect for flipping the classroom. We will explore practical ways to utilize all the features in Google Classroom for both students as well as adults.
LMT13 Increasing Engagement in STEM
Does your District want to integrate Stem, but Robot Kits are too expensive?CoderZ is a fun, powerful and easy to use interactive online platform that allows students to learn how to program virtual robots. It is a unique STEM experience that offers students experience with either block based or advanced coding simulations. It is an online tool that will run from any web browser and also integrates with Lego EV3. I will demonstrate how using CoderZ can enhance teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking skills and digital literacy.
LMT14 Breakout EDU
Lots of teachers are utilizing Breakout EDU in the classroom to engage students in the curriculum with fun, immersive, and team-building adventures. The official website and social media communities have tons of resources for running a Breakout, but the experience can be much more rewarding if you are able to tailor the experience for your class and students. Participants in this session will look at different ways to create their own Breakouts besides just copy/paste from the net. We will explore both puzzle styles as well as content distribution in an open discussion to add creativity and personality to our usage of Breakout EDU. This is NOT an introduction to Breakout EDU. Participants should already be familiar with the program.
LMT15 Making Personal Connections Coaching
Coaching is a very personal process. The strength of an instructional coach comes from developing personal relationships with the people we work with. This roundtable discussion is about how to best develop personal relationships with the people that we work with on a daily basis.

What happens when you are a 1:1 Chromebook high school and you have overworked IT staff? Lynnfield High School decided to tap a free resource. Help Desk students stepped up to learn how to repair, troubleshoot, and manage the Chromebook repair process. These high school students have been given a chance for authentic learning and real world experience and they have expertly risen to the challenge and proven that they are up to the task.

Programming in the Elementary Grades – Come hear how we are integrating programming into the elementary curriculum. Projects that will be presented incorporate Bee-Bots, Ozobots, Scratch Jr and Scratch, to name a few. In addition, we hope you will come ready to share how you are building student computational thinking skills.
