A gatekeeper is anyone in a position to recognize a crisis and warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Suicidal thoughts are common. Suicide threats and attempts are less common, but much more frequent than people realize. Suicide is the most common psychiatric emergency and a leading cause of death in America. This DESE mandated training (every 3 years) is provided pursuant to Massachusetts Bill H 4376 (2014).

Participants will discuss stigma and help seeking or helping behaviors as well as protective and risk factors. Considerations around how our society differentiates responses to physical health issues and mental health issues will be covered.

Pre-Employment transition services provide eligible high school students with opportunities to learn more about their vocational area of interest, develop pre-employment skills and provides opportunities for exposure for employment. This presentation will provide an overview of how MRC’s Transition Services Program can partner with Tewksbury High School toward helping the students we service as they transition from high school.

This workshop will take a look at district and school policies found in your school’s handbook, Massachusetts General Laws, and state regulations regarding student attendance. We will examine how to accurately categorize absences and take proactive steps to engage students and families in improving regular school attendance. There will be a focus on the steps schools can take to enforce the laws and regulations that are in place, including filing a Child Requiring Assistance (CRA) application, a Failure to Send, or a 51A for Educational Neglect.

This workshop will provide attendees with an understanding of the state recommended high quality College and Career Advising program (CCA) along with an introduction to the implementation of My Career and Academic Plan (MyCAP) as the vehicle for students to document their learning and capture the development of their post-secondary planning. A four year scope and sequence for CCA will be shared along with other resources that can help schools implement MyCAP for every student
