Come hear from a library media specialist and digital learning coach about our pilot year of sparking a change in our school community for better with different grade-level ideas that “stem” from the maker mentality – including a kindness project, literary engineering, student service squad, and designing a better school. We’ll share where our ideas came from, gaining teacher and administration buy-in, how we implemented changes for each grade, our lessons learned, and more! Participants will walk away with fresh ideas, lesson resources, and ready to tackle social and emotional learning with a maker mentality.

If you think you know all about Breakouts, think again! If you think a Breakout means that you have to turn your whole classroom into an Escape Room: you will be pleasantly surprised at these other avenues. If you are afraid to try Breakouts, then this class is for you. If you already tried them and are looking to take it up a notch, come and discuss! This workshop will cover Breakouts in a differentiated style. After running a 12-week Breakout course for teachers, I learned how teachers of all skill levels can start using Breakout methods in their classrooms.

Libraries today incorporate so much! How to you fit it all in? STEAM and literacy work so well together, but it can be overwhelming deciding how to teach and incorporate it all. There are so many sites, robots and apps that it can be confusing to know what to use and how. Come join us to learn about how we incorporate STEAM into our libraries. You can also try out devices such as MIP robots, Osmo, Green Screen, DASH robots and maker activities. We believe learning through play is key, so get ready to play!

The information is based on a recent book written by the presenter called The UDL Educational Technology Guide 2020: Technology for Special Education.

In this session, participants will discover a variety of free ways to bring the world into their classrooms using tools like Flipgrid, Skype, Zoom, and Seesaw to connect with other classrooms, authors, and experts in different subjects. The presenter will introduce participants to initiatives like The Global Read Aloud, Dot Day, World Read Aloud Day, Skype a Scientist, Skype in the Classroom and other ways teachers in Carlisle have brought the world into their classrooms to support their curriculum.

Visual Storytelling Using Virtual/Augmented Reality: This session will cover the process of and takeaways from a collaborative project organized by an English teacher, school librarian, and technology department member. The project involves 9th grade students working on a memoir unit to take an assigned reading book for class and utilize a virtual/augmented reality tool to produce a creative project that demonstrates learning new content and skills.
